Digestion problems and hormonal imbalances are occurring more often than ever before. As stress has increased, lives become busier, and the use of medicines has increased, so much in the body is going out of balance. A higher number of younger people are suffering from chronic diseases than ever before and this is due to a range of factors that are affecting each individual on a cellular basis.

Causes Of Digestion Problems And Hormonal Imbalance
There are numerous reasons why people suffer from digestion-related issues, rheumatoid diseases, and hormonal imbalances.

Generalized oedema can be caused by consuming food that is high in salt content. It can occur if you sit in one place for a long period without moving much. Pregnant women can suffer from generalized oedema. It can be caused before the menstrual cycle begins. Some medications such as estrogens, high blood pressure medicines, and some diabetes medicines can cause oedema. Various diseases such as cirrhosis, kidney damage, congestive heart failure, and DVT can cause oedema. If you have protein deficiency then you are more prone to generalized oedema.

Constipation can be caused if you have too many dairy products, are pregnant or are stressed. It can be caused if you consume an insufficient amount of fibre in your diet. It can occur if you don’t drink an adequate amount of water. A sedentary lifestyle can lead to constipation. For some people, taking too many laxatives can lead to constipation. Eating disorders, an underactive thyroid, neurological conditions, and colon cancer can lead to constipation. Sometimes, if you make any changes to your diet then you can get constipated. Some medicines can cause constipation.

There are various rheumatoid diseases including fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, gout, scleroderma, and bursitis. Rheumatoid diseases are caused due to environmental factors and genetic makeup. Certain factors make you more prone to rheumatoid diseases. For instance, smoking can cause the development of rheumatoid diseases. Obesity and dietary factors can lead to an increase in the risk of rheumatoid diseases. Lupus usually affects more Hispanics and African-Americans.

The causes of hormonal imbalances depend on the glands or the hormones that are affected. There are some common causes though. For instance, people with hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism are more prone to hormonal imbalance. People who get stressed quickly are more likely to have a hormonal imbalance. Certain medications, diabetes, hypogonadism, and hormone therapy can cause an imbalance of the hormones. Eating disorders, injury, tumours, and thyroiditis can lead to hormonal imbalance too.

Ayurveda’s View On Digestion Problems And Hormonal Imbalance
The agni is the source of life in Ayurveda. It is commonly known as fire. If there is any problem that occurs with agni then it causes an imbalance in the body. The agni is given high importance in Ayurveda also because it connects the mind and the body. If you want good health then you need to balance the agni. The key is to prevent an excess of any of the three doshas; vata, pitta, and kapha. In addition, the excess of ama, which are toxins in the body, need to be lessened so they don’t cause an imbalance. The agni ensures that there is no excess of the doshas.

There are various ways to ensure that the agni is balanced. You should ensure you are following a set routine. Having a routine supports agni because it helps you come into a state of peacefulness and relaxation. This helps to reduce stress and balances your emotions which are key to balance in your body. Meditation is highly beneficial for people who want to balance agni and certain yoga exercises are helpful too. People with pitta imbalance should do sheetali. People who have vata imbalance should do nadi shodhana. People who have kapha imbalance should do bhastrika.

Exercise is encouraged in Ayurveda to ensure agni is supported. Those who have vata imbalance should do gentle exercises. People who have pitta imbalance should do moderate-intensity exercises. These should be done in a relaxed manner. People who have kapha imbalance should take part in vigorous exercises. It is recommended that you take a short walk before you have your meal. If you tend to feel sleepy after a meal, then it is advised that you walk in nature so that you feel active and energized.

Food is of the utmost importance to balance agni. You should eat sitting down and be mindful when you are eating. If you have underactive agni then having a piece of ginger with a few drops of lemon juice and salt will help before eating a meal is helpful. For those with overactive agni can have pomegranate chutney. You should have drinks at room temperature. Eating a heavy lunch between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. is recommended. Dinner should be light and you should ensure you eat it before 8:00 p.m. Having lassi during lunch is beneficial. Dietary cleansing can prove beneficial too.

Hormonal imbalance occurs due to imbalance in any of the doshas. The key to balance all hormones is to support agni. One of the easiest ways to do that is to avoid cigarettes, coffee, junk food, food that has preservatives, and alcohol. Instead, you should focus on eating fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, fresh cheese like paneer, lentils, milk, and grains. Cooking with ghee is a good way to support agni. Lassi is an excellent way to support agni too. Focusing on eating light, warm and liquid foods for women when they are going through their menstrual cycle is recommended.

For women during their menstrual cycle, it is recommended that you eat a pomegranate, papaya, and pineapple to alleviate menstrual pain and other problems. Eating amla will prove to be beneficial too because it helps with cell regeneration and has numerous digestive benefits. Decreasing the amount of foods that are difficult to digest is recommended. These foods include bell peppers, tomatoes, and eggplant. Women should have iron to ensure hemoglobin levels are high. Women can take herbs such as sacred fig, lodha tree, waterlily, and mango seed for proper blood flow.

Women should rest during their periods as it allows the body to relax. Women should do things that they enjoy and they should stay away from whatever upsets them or causes them to worry. Moderate exercise is recommended so that circulation is promoted and metabolism improves. This helps in the blood purification process. Deep breathing is also beneficial for women. Women must ensure they are not constipated. If so, they should have prunes and figs until the problem subsides. Reducing ama is going to help treat hormonal imbalances too.
