Marayoor Jaggery

Why Marayoor Jaggery?

Marayoor in Kerala is best known for its extensive sugarcane cultivation with more than 2500 acres of the land dedicated to the growth of sugarcane. Kerala Ayurveda's Organic Marayoor jaggery is original jaggery and is free of any additives, colors, preservatives, etc. Being 100& natural, it is known for its therapeutic as well as nutritional health benefits, some of which include:

Helps to prevent constipation

Marayoor jaggery activates the digestive enzymes in the body, stimulates bowel movements and thus helps prevent and relieve constipation. It also acts as a diuretic that can help stimulate bowel movement.

Aids in liver detox

Jaggery is a natural body cleanser, further reducing the workload of the liver. It helps cleanse the liver by flushing out harmful toxins from the body, which further aid in detoxifying the liver.

Helps in the treatment of flu-like symptoms

Marayoor jaggery produces heat in the body, and the warming effect in jaggery makes it a beneficial sweet that can help in the treatment of cold and flu.

It is one of the prescriptions as a blood purifier

One of the most well-known benefits of Marayoor jaggery is its ability to purify the blood. When consumed on a regular basis and in limited quantities, it cleanses the blood, leaving the body healthy. Clean blood means a healthier body, free from any disease.

Helps in boosting the immunity

Marayoor jaggery is loaded with antioxidants and minerals such as zinc and selenium, which in turn help prevent free-radical damage and also boost resistance against infections. Jaggery also helps increase the total count of haemoglobin in the blood.

Helps to reduce the risk of digestive disorders

Organic jaggery acts as an agent in maintaining the proper functioning of the digestive system. It is useful in providing relief from flatulence, indigestion, intestinal worms, constipation, and other digestive disorders by stimulating the proper bowel movements.

Kerala Ayurveda’s Marayoor Jaggery is one of the best options when looking for organic jaggery online.

Overview - Digestive Health

The digestive system was considered a relatively ‘simple’ body system that comprised essentially of one long tube for food to pass through, be absorbed, and then excreted. Over the last two decades, however, there is more knowledge about the link between gut health and the immune system, mood, mental health, autoimmune diseases, endocrine disorders, skin conditions, and cancer. Digestive diseases are disorders of the digestive tract, which is sometimes called the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The gastrointestinal tract is a series of hollow organs that form a long continuous passage from the mouth to the anus. The organs that make up the GI tract are the mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, and anus.

The GI tract, together with the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder, make up the digestive system. An extensive network of blood vessels supply blood to these organs and also transport nutrients away to other organs in the body. Nerves and hormones work together to regulate the functioning of the digestive system and bacteria that reside within the GI tract (called the gut flora or microbiome) play a role in digestion, immunity, and overall health.

However, high-stress levels, too little sleep, eating processed and high-sugar foods, and taking antibiotics can all damage the gut microbiome and this, in turn, may affect other aspects of one's health. There are a number of signs and symptoms of an unhealthy gut, some of which include:

Digestive Issues

A healthy and balanced gut will not have chronic problems digesting foods and eliminating wastes. Stomach disturbances like gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, and heartburn can all be signs of an unhealthy gut.

Inflammation

High amounts of refined sugars, particularly high-fructose corn syrup, play a role in increasing inflammation in the body. Inflammation can be the precursor to a number of diseases and even cancers.

Unintentional weight changes

An imbalanced gut can impair the body’s ability to absorb nutrients, regulate blood sugar, and store fat. Weight loss may be caused by small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), while weight gain may be caused by insulin resistance or the urge to overeat due to decreased nutrient absorption.

Sleep disturbances or constant fatigue

An unhealthy gut may contribute to sleep disturbances such as insomnia or poor sleep, and therefore lead to chronic fatigue.

Skin irritation

Inflammation in the gut caused by a poor diet or food allergies may cause increased ‘leaking’ of certain proteins out into the body, which can, in turn, irritate the skin and cause conditions such as eczema and rosacea. Other skin conditions, such as dermatitis, acne, and psoriasis may also be caused by an unbalanced or unhealthy microbiome in your gut.

Autoimmune conditions

An unhealthy gut may increase systemic inflammation and alter the proper functioning of the immune system. This can lead to autoimmune diseases, where the body attacks itself rather than harmful invaders.

Food intolerances

Food intolerances are often the result of difficulty digesting certain foods (this is different than a food allergy, which is caused by an immune system reaction to certain foods). Since food intolerances may be caused by the poor quality of bacteria in the gut, it can lead to difficulty digesting the trigger foods and can lead to unpleasant symptoms such as bloating, gas, diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and nausea.

An Ayurvedic Perspective

Ayurveda, an ancient healing system present in India for over 5,000 years, has understood the relationship between digestive health and disease and has emphasized that the gut as the key to longevity, vitality, and mental well-being. According to Ayurveda, harmful foods such as fried foods, processed meats, and very cold foods can create an undigested residue that forms toxins, or in Ayurvedic terms ‘ama’. Ama is described as the root cause of disease, and therefore, the root cause of all disorders lies in poor digestion.

When the digestive system is able to break all of the nutrients down, it creates a nourishing essential fluid called ojas. Ojas is understood as the essence of the intelligence of the food. When the digestive fire or 'agni' is strong, then everything that is eaten will be metabolized into ojas, which is then circulated throughout the body, nourishing all the cells, tissues and organs.

If the digestive fire is weak, then this means that the power of metabolism is poor and the digestive system is unable to fully break down food into its most subtle essence. Poor digestion results in the formation of ama, which prevents the cells of the physiology from fully receiving nourishment (ojas) from the food.
