Muscle cramps, Joint Pain and Stiffness:One of the most common issues that people usually suffer from is muscle pains and issues pertaining to the joints. Muscle issues mostly happen due to tenderness in the soft tissue that surrounds the muscle. This could be brought about by a variety of reasons like sleep deprivation, illness, overuse, and injuries. The stiffness or inflammation in the muscles could lead to shooting pain in many cases. There are two major causes for this issue that Ayurveda clearly identifies. First is when the digestive fire or Ama of the human body is not as strong and efficient as it should be. Second is, when there is a blockage of blood flow or an accumulation of toxins in a certain part of the body, the muscles and joints don’t tend to receive the necessary nourishment and are hence stiff.  Causes of muscle cramps, joint pain, joint stiffness and chest congestionMuscle cramps can occur when there is improper circulation in the legs. If you don’t stretch enough, then you can have muscle cramps. Sometimes over-exercising can lead to muscle cramps. For example, if your muscles are stretching more than usual, then it can lead to muscle cramps. Potassium deficiency can lead to muscle cramps. If there is magnesium deficiency then it can lead to muscle cramps. Dehydration can also lead to muscle cramps. Muscle fatigue is another major cause. An injury to the spinal cord, neck or back can lead to muscle cramps too. There are various causes of joint pain. The most common cause is arthritis; rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis. It is common in people who are 40 or older. An infection that affects the joint or bone can lead to joint pain. There are various disorders such as rickets, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, and sarcoidosis that can lead to joint pain. Some infectious diseases such as hepatitis can lead to joint pain. Tendon inflammation can lead to joint pain. There are many causes for joint stiffness. Arthritis is the most common cause of stiff joints. Sometimes bone cancer can lead to stiff joints although this rarely occurs. Gout can cause sudden joint stiffness and can even occur while you sleep. When you wake up, you experience intense pain suddenly. Lupus is a type of autoimmune disease and when it affects your joints then it can lead to joint stiffness. Bursitis can affect your joints which can lead to joint stiffness and pain. It is more common in large joints of the body.Chest congestion can be caused due to other conditions of the lung. One of the common causes is acid reflux. Another popular cause is asthma. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD is another cause of chest congestion. Sometimes congestion can occur due to viral and bacterial infections. Cystic fibrosis can lead to chest congestion. People with chronic bronchitis can experience chest congestion. Allergies can cause congestion in the chest. For example, if you breathe in allergens then these can enter your body and cause allergies that cause congestion.Ayurveda’s view on joint problems and congestionAccording to Ayurveda, there are two types of problems that can occur in the joints. The vata dosha imbalance results in joint stiffness and joint pain. In this, you cannot freely move the joints and if you do you experience pain. This is because the joints are unable to get sufficient nutrition they need to be healthy and to perform optimally. The second type of joint problem occurs due to kapha imbalance. In this type of imbalance, there is an excess of ama that resides in the joints and increases over time as ama is collected. This type of imbalance leads to joint inflammation that can be accompanied by pain.Sinus problems develop due to sub-doshas of vata and kapha known as prana vata and shleshaka kapha respectively. When these are imbalanced at the same time then ama gets involved too. This causes sinuses to develop and leads to pitta imbalance. Since three doshas are now out of balance it leads to immunity problems and can cause breathing difficulties among others. In addition to this, if the imbalances are further increased due to eating excessive foods of one type, then it can lead to other respiratory problems. Environmental factors and stress can add to the imbalance as well which can cause other problems to occur.Ayurveda views the problems of respiratory problems and joint problems based on doshas. And depending on the type of problem you have, the solution is tailored accordingly. For example, if your joint problem is due to vata imbalance then you should include the six types of tastes in your diet. You should create a routine as well. For joint problems related to kapha imbalance, you can start eating warm soups and food prepared with spices that help you digest food with ease. For respiratory problems, you should drink water. You should pacify the dosha that is causing the problem. The Doshas not being at their optimum levels cause issues of the muscles and joints. Hence it is imperative to know the Doshas to find the right Ayurvedic oil for muscular pains. Every Dosha -- Vata, Pitta, Kapha -- will have a different remedy to the overarching muscular or joint issue. Pacifying the Dosha that is causing the issue is the best resolution. For example, each of the Doshas can be satisfied by changing one's diet. Vata imbalances are rectified by including nourishing and warming foods and Kapha imbalances are negated by consuming warm foods and a variety of spices. These lifestyle changes coupled with Ayurvedic oils for muscular pain can work wonders in resolving the deficiencies to a large extent and in some cases, even curing them fully.
