In Ayurveda, vaginitis is related to two different disorders that affect the vagina, known as yoni dahan and yoni kandu. Vaginal infections are one of the main reasons for these problems. According to Ayurveda, these infections occur due to an imbalance in the Kapha and Pitta doshas. Consuming a diet that has sugar and fermented foods increases the dosha. This increases the presence of ama or toxins, which creates an environment where bacteria can flourish.
All the female reproductive problems in Ayurveda are categorized under the head of yoni vypat (or disorders of the vagina). Imbalance in Kapha due to an improper diet where foods that increase Kapha are consumed is one of the reasons. Improper lifestyle with stress and other problems can aggravate Kapha.
This has an impact on the yoni or vagina and leads to various problems. This includes itching or kandu and alpavedana or pain. Excess discharge or leukorrhea is known as shwetapradara. The water in the Kapha dosha becomes vitiated by the toxins. This can cause excess discharge from the vagina.
