Thamboola Rasayanam
Thamboola Rasayanam also called Tambula Rasayanam is yet another vital part of Kerala Ayurveda’s long-list of ayurvedic medicines. It contains several ingredients and herbs which are known to provide relief from various respiratory ailments like asthma, bronchitis, etc and used in the preparation of ayurvedic medicine for whooping cough.
Whooping cough is a chronic illness caused by an infection in the respiratory tract. People may have trouble taking a breath when there is an infection in the lungs followed by a high-pitch intake of breath causing whooping sound. Since it is a chronic illness, there is no definite allopathic treatment that can purge this condition completely. The allopathic medications to cure whooping cough may further pose a threat to the sufferer because of their ability to destroy the immunity power. Hence, there was a need to develop ayurvedic medicine for lung strength which used only naturally occurring herbs.

Honey lubricates the airways making cough easy while helping the mucus to break up.
Bambusa Bambos
Bambusa arundinacea is a plant mentioned in the various books of Ayurveda. It assists people in the treatment of cough, nausea, digestive disorders, wounds, and fever. Besides this, Ayurveda considers the disease to be the result of variations in the dosha levels of the body, which are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. So, in the event of whooping cough, it helps reduce vitiated Kapha and Pitta
dosha.

Ayurveda’s viewpoint on respiratory problems
According to Ayurveda, the energy of breathing is very important for the vitality of the body. Prana, supplies the energy to all the subsequent body parts, of course along with food and without this, we cannot imagine our existence. Prana is the sub dosha of Vata. It flows into the body, but can only be balanced with outward breath which is exhalation.
Our body has the capacity to work beyond its capacity to take care of the Prana. The respiratory system of the body is of utmost importance, so the body spares no energy to keep it functional.  This system of the body uses blood and oxygen to keep itself goes on functional. So, they need a lot of lubrication to prevent the shutdown. The Kapha dosha resides in the upper trunk of the lungs. Ailments arise when there is a problem in the regulation of water across the lungs and its surfaces. Vata causes dryness while Pitta balance is responsible for inflammation.  Any variation in their balance may cause dryness and the formation of the ama results in whooping cough because the lungs are infected.
